Nature of request
The Earl of Gloucester, who is under age, makes three requests:1) He asks that he might appoint as general guardians in England Richard de Lughteburgh and John de Chelmersford, and that he might have a protection with the clause.2) He asks that he might appoint as general guardians in Ireland William de Tunstal and Simon Donnyng until he is of age, and that he might have a protection with the clause until he is of age or at the King's pleasure.3) He requests a commission to the sheriffs, bailiffs and other ministers of the King both in England and in Scotland, to allow his people to make provision for his coming to Scotland, while he is the King's lieutenant there.
Nature of endorsement
[On face, to first petition] The guardians are to be admitted and the protections are to be made.[On face, to second petition, deleted] Fiat.[On face below petitions] The guardians are to be admitted and writs of protection are to be issued with the clause of acquittance of pleas, to last until the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist. Item he is to be given a commission that his people can make their provisions both in England and in Scotland, both within liberties and outside, as seems to be to the benefit of the same Earl, to last until the feast of John the Baptist.[None on dorse]
