Nature of request
John Barber states that he was attached to appear before the King and council on 24 January last, but that he was kept in the custody of the Sheriff until the last day of January, when he was sent to the Tower of London by the council, contrary to the statute of King Edward that no-one should be arrested or otherwise molested without due process of law. He asks the commons to ask the Duke of Gloucester and the other lords of the council in this parliament to uphold the law, so that he might either have his response or be dismissed.
