Description
Petitioners
Dean and college of the free chapel of St Stephen within the palace of Westminster.
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that Edward III purchased various lands, tenements and advowsons, and gave and granted them to John, Duke of Lancaster and others, with the intention of their being amortized to the college and to other houses of religion which he had founded; which feoffments were confirmed in the late parliament at Gloucester. The feoffees granted certain manors and advowsons to the college for forty years, but Simon de Burale has wrongly expelled them from these manors, lands and tenements, without reason. They ask that these manors, lands and tenements might be restored to them, considering that the King has granted them an annuity until they recover these lands or are given others to the same value.
Nature of endorsement
The parties mentioned here are to be called before the council by writ, three weeks after Easter, in the tenth year etc., and when the matter contained here has been heard, examined and answered, justice is to be done on this.
