Description
Petitioners
People of the gildable parts of the seven hundreds of Cookham and Bray, and the other commons of Berkshire.
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that although the expenses of knights of the shire coming to parliament are customarily levied from all the vills of the county, except for cities and boroughs, the collectors of these expenses in Berkshire are now charging the people of the gildable only, and exempting those living within franchises. They ask that the people of these franchises might be ordered to pay their share as they used to do, or that the sum that they should pay might be deducted from the sum to be levied.
