Francis, Prior of Montacute, states that in the time of Edward III it was granted by statute that all alien priors would have their priories paying the accustomed farms for them during the war, but because the possessions of the Priory of Montacute were seized into Edward's hand because of his wars, by his letters patent he granted the Priory and its possessions to Francis for £120 annually; and the present King confirmed this grant according to the statute and the ordinance of his last parliament at Westminster, and gave him his letters of protection, and other necessary letters, including letters to the monks to be obedient to him. And now a brother Nicholas Hornyk has entered the Priory and occupied it by force of certain letters patent, so that he is expelled. He requests a remedy.
