Description

Name(s)
de Waltham, John
Addressees
King in parliament.
Occupation
parson of South Cave, prebendary of South Cave in York Minster
Nature of request
John de Waltham states that Henry de Ingelby, his predecessor as parson of South Cave, and prebendary of South Cave in York Minster, recovered in court Christian all tithes from Faxfleet and Oxmardike, and the offerings made in the chapel of Faxfleet, which are within his parish of South Cave, by a certain process confirmed by the King's grandfather. Nevertheless, certain clerks occupying the chapel of Faxfleet at the King's collation are claiming that it is a free chapel, and have wrongly prevented him and his predecessors from receiving these tithes and offerings. He requests permission to sue for their recovery in any court Christian, and before any judges that seem expedient to him, and that the judges might proceed and determine the case, without impediment from the King, his heirs or his ministers, notwithstanding that Oxmardike is in the King's hand.
