Description
Petitioners
Italian merchants in London.
Addressees
Commons of parliament.
Nature of request
The Italian merchants in London state that the grant of the subsidy made in the parliament of the first year of the King's reign was copied down wrong, so that it shows alien merchants to pay 53s. 4d. for every sack of wool, whereas they should only pay 43s. 4d.; and that because of this, the King granted that they should pay only 43s. 4d. for a year from 1 September in his first year. But this has now run out, and they are finding the charges on them too heavy to bear, and must cease buying wool and other merchandise in England, causing great loss of revenue to the King. They ask the commons to ask the King and lords to amend the enactment of the subsidy in the last parliament.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Let it be sent to the lords.[On dorse] The answer is on the roll.
