Description
Petitioners
William Colk of Ipswich.
Name(s)
Colk, William
Addressees
Places mentioned
Ipswich, [Suffolk]
Guelders.
Nature of request
William Colk of Ipswich, born in Guelders, who has lived in England for a long time and intends to spend the rest of his life there, asks the commons to ask the King and lords to grant him denization.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Let it be sent to the lords.[None on dorse].
Note
CPR 1429-36 p.564 is dated 18 April 1436; both it and SC 8/101/5011 mention a Walter Colk, tailor of Ipswich, born in Guelders, whereas this petition clearly says William and does not mention any trade. This may be a mis-copying for Walter, or this man may be a relative. In any case the petition seems likely to date from around this time.
