Nature of request
[This petition is damaged.]William Palmes, tenant of the manor of Naburn, states that he was falsely convicted and imprisoned in the prison of the late Bishop of Winchester for fifteen years until he made his purgation, and that while he was in prison he was falsely outlawed for killing a man, at the procurement of his enemies. His manor was taken into the King's hand and given to Walter Whythors, who took the profits from it for six years and more, and sold trees worth 100 marks from it. After William had made his purgation, he sued to have the outlawry reversed, but because Walter is one of the King's intimates, he was obstructed in his suit until he had made fine with Walter for a certain sum to give him an annuity from the manor. He asks that he might be restored to these profits and damages.

Note
CPR 1364-7 p.18 is dated 24 September 1364, and CPR 1367-70 p.409 is dated 20 May 1370 - which would be consistent with Whythors taking the profits of the manor for six years. CPR 1354-8 p.347 is dated 27 January 1356, but may have been added in 1370, cf. the reference to the petitioner's fifteen years inprisonment. The petition is damaged, but seems to say that the petitioner has paid only one instalment of the annuity, so it would seem to date from shortly after 1370.
