Nature of request
Letter to Edward II from the Mayor and community of Lincoln, stating that their fellow-citizen, Hugh le Tyghler, had delivered some money to William Boudeloit, money-changer of St-Omer, to change for him, but that William had decamped with it. The King then wrote to the Mayor and echevins of St-Omer, who had been guarantors for William, to pay Hugh his money, and they replied that they would be happy to pay, but, because they wished to put it off, the King, at Hugh's request, wrote again several times, requesting immediate payment of the sum and damages: but they did not pay, and even went so far as to tear up the King's letter. They request a remedy for Hugh.
