Nature of request
Joan, widow of William de Sarstone, states that she petitioned the Christmas parliament that Stephen de Penecestre, constable of Dover, had kept her out of her dower for eleven years and more. This accusation was put to Stephen, who said that if she could demonstrate to the King and council that she had been the wife of William de Sarstone, he would give her her dower; but he has prevented the King and council from seeing the letter from the Bishop of Winchester proving that marriage. She asks that this matter might be determined in the King's presence.

Coram consilio regis.Stephen de Penecestre has agreed to endow her when it can be shown to him by an inquiry that she was married to the man from whose death she is seeking the dower.
