The household of Eleanor, widow of John de Verdun, state that she is mad and an imbecile, and is dowered with all the lands of Theobald de Verdun, and holds the manor of Debden in free marriage; and that Theobald has entered all these lands and has made waste in the manor of Debden. They request a suitable wardship for her.

Note
Eleanor was the second wife of Sir John de Verdun, who died in 1274 and was suceeded by Theobald de Verdun, the first surviving son of his first marriage. An agreement between Eleanor and Theobald about her dower is recorded in CCR 1272-9 pp.322-323 (27 November 1275); and she is involved in a suit concerning her dower before the justices of the Bench of Dublin in 1278 (CCR 1272-9 p.500, dated 10 June 1278). She should not be confused with Eleanor de Furnival, wife of another Sir John de Verdun.
