Nature of request
The Master and brothers of the Order of the Temple state that, although the churches which they hold for their own use are exempt from contributions imposed by bishops and others, the Archbishop of York is distraining them for a contribution from four of their churches in his province, for the tenth and thirtieth granted by the Church to the King. They request a remedy, saying that they are happy to give their goods to the King, but that their privileges are not to be infringed.
