Nature of request
The Barons of Pevensey make two requests:1) They state that their town is being ruined because no-one can enter or leave it from the east, and ask that they might have permission to build a bridge at their own expense for the salvation of the town.2) They state that the inquisition taken by the Keeper of the Cinque Ports into tallages wrongly levied by the King's Bailiffs of Pevensey has been returned in Chancery, and they ask the King to have it brought before him and to do justice.
Nature of endorsement
[On face, to first] There is to be an inquisition by the Constable of Pevensey and the Bailiff of the Eagle.[On face, to second] They are to wait for the Michaelmas term, and then both inquisitions are to come before the King.[None on dorse]

Tentatively dated to c. 1297 with reference to CIM 1219-1307no.1763, the writ for which is dated 4 July 25 Edward I (1297) and which seems likely to be the inquisition mentioned in the second petition, and to CPR 1292-1301 p.348, which is dated 21 April 1298.
