Nature of request
Letter to Edward I from the barons of Dover, stating that their fellow-baron, John de Hethe or de Fokeston, has been attached while trading at Newcastle upon Tyne for the murder of certain men of Newcastle committed two years ago. They state that he is innocent, and ask that he might be tried in the court of Shipway, according to the laws and customs of the Cinque Ports, and that the Bailiffs of Newcastle might be ordered to hand him over to his fellow-barons, to answer in this court to anyone wishing to complain against him.
