Nature of request
Geoffrey, Prior of Lenton, requests permission to travel overseas to the court of Rome, to receive absolution from excommunication, and the King's protection, with the clause, for a year. He also asks that he might go as the King's messenger, to accomplish his business more surely, and that he might have guardians of his house, to be named by him, in the meantime. He also asks the King to write to the Kings of France and Sicily to aid him in his business.
