Description
Petitioners
Inhabitants of Laluque.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The inhabitants of Laluque state that Elias de Caupona, who was given Laluque by Edward I, is not observing their customs, rights and privileges as he promised to; and they list three ways in which he is oppressing them. They ask the King to order the Seneschal of Gascony or his lieutenant to take them back into the King's hand and protect and defend them there.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
St Johannis de le Luque (Laluque), [Gascony, France]
Aqu' (Dax) diocese, [France].
People mentioned
Elias de Caupona
[Edward I], King of England.
Note
Formerly enclosed with CCW 1244-1326 p.423, which is dated 19 September 1315. The resultant order to the Seneschal was issued on 6 October 1315. The index to the Calendar of Gascon Rolls, 1307-1317, suggests that the place concerned is either Laluque or St-Jean-de-Luz, but the petition and the enrolment both specify it as lying in the diocese of Dax, which would suggest the former.
