Nature of request
John de Mathi, merchant of Ponthieu, states that he had bought wood from John Vinont, the King's Receiver in the forest of Crecy, but that now that he has come to pay, he is forced to pay in the strong money current in France, which is impoverishing him, although other merchants have been able to pay in weaker currencies. He asks that he might be able to pay £100 of Paris for the £200 of Paris that he still owes.
