Nature of request
Letter from the Bailiffs and burgesses of Newcastle upon Tyne to the King, stating that Peter Graper, their fellow-burgess, had sent his servant, Thomas Marchaund, to Flanders to trade, in time of peace, but that, because war then broke out, Thomas gave £68, arising from this trade, to Roger de Hercheberge, a burgess of Bruges, to keep. After peace was restored Peter was unable to recover this sum, despite letters from both Edward I and Edward II to the echevins and good people of Bruges, asking for its restoration. They request a suitable remedy.
