Nature of request
The Prior of Avebury lists the misfortunes which have befallen him through flood, fire, plague, murrain of sheep, rents withheld, and expenses for repairs to his priory, and states that he has petitioned the King to have a pardon for the arrears of his farm: and now a large sum of money has been assigned to John Brokas for the term of Easter last. He asks that this might not be levied until the King has ordained his grace.
Nature of endorsement
The Prior owes £96 from arrears of his priory, for which he requests grace.He is to be pardoned £36 of the arrears he owes from times past, and he will pay £40 now. And he will have respite of £20, to pay £10 next Michaelmas with his farm, and £10 at the following Easter with his farm, of the King's grace, out of reverence for St George, patron of the house, and for their poverty; and letters are to be sent to the Treasurer, Barons and Chamberlains.

CCR 1354-60 p.293 is dated 20 January 1357, and, from the endorsement, is clearly in response to this petition. This petition may have accompanied the one mentioned here, asking for pardon - to which the endorsement strictly belongs.
