The petitioners state that the community of London was obliged by its letters patent to certain burgesses of Ghent for 730 marks sterling for King Henry, and that the late King Edward has this sum shared out between certain merchants of England whose goods were seized in Flanders, by an agreement between himself and Guy, Count of Flanders, but that they were arrested and imprisoned in Flanders and their goods taken because of this letter. The King and his father have often written to the Count of Flanders and to the people of Ghent to redress this wrong, but they have not done so. They request a remedy by means of reprisal against the people of Flanders.

CCR 1307-13 pp.46-47 is dated 1 December 1307, and this petition would seem to date from around this time, possibly slightly later than this letter.CCR 1296-1302 pp.555-6 is dated 23 August 1302.
