Nature of request
[This petition is damaged.]The merchants of the company of the Bardi make two requests:1) They state that they were falsely indicted before justices in the county of Hampshire of not paying custom on wools that they took out of the country, and it was adjudged that the wools had been weighed in a scale favourable to the merchants, and that the King should be answered for what remained unpaid. They dispute this judgment, and ask that they might be pardoned this sum.2) They state that while Bankyn Belcar, their companion, was in his own country, where he still is, he was falsely indicted concerning a ship containing the King's wines which is alleged to have come into his hands and those of others of the company, and outlawed. They state that if he had been in the country he would easily have been acquitted of this, and ask that he might be quit of this.
