Nature of request
[This petition is partly illegible.]The Abbot of St Augustine's, Canterbury, makes five requests:1) He states that the Archbishop of Canterbury has arrested several people whom he claims belong to his jurisdiction, and will not release them until the octave of Hilary, contrary to the ordinance previously made to the Abbot by the King. He asks that they might be released according to the ordinance.2) He states that several of his men have been arrested for the death of Christina de Brunley, and requests their release.3) [This petition is largely illegible].4) He states that oppressions and damages are being inflicted on the Abbey of St Augustine's by people procured by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and asks that he and his people and possessions might be taken into the King's protection, provided that they are ready to answer to any plea of trespass, land, debt, or anything else in any court.5) He requests the release of Robert de Lutelehamme, Henry Paulyn and William Dalra, imprisoned for the death of Christina de Brunley.
