Description
Petitioners
Aldermen and citizens of London.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The Aldermen and citizens of London state that when a trespass was committed against John de Gisorce, Mayor of London, he sued against Henry le Cheyner, one of the principal trespassers, before the Sheriffs of London, and Henry was convicted by a jury, and sentenced to pay damages, and sent to prison until he had made satisfaction to the King for the contempt and to the Mayor for the trespasses. Now claims have been made to the Chancellor that Henry was convicted before the Mayor and not before the Sheriffs, and Henry has been released on mainprise, without giving satisfaction to the King for the contempt done him or to John de Gisorce for the trespass. They state that the plea took place and the judgment was given before the Sheriffs, in the presence of the Aldermen, and ask that a suitable ordinance might be made on this matter, so that the trespass might not go unpunished or the King's estate be reviled.
