Nature of request
The community of Bayonne make nine petitions:1) They state that they have equipped a fleet of ships at their own great cost, without any aid, and request compensation.2) They request repayment of a sum of money lent to Oliver de Ingham, Seneschal of Gascony.3) As a reward for their services they request the bailiwick of Labenne with Capbreton, which belongs to this bailiwick, and which are very necessary if they are to save their inheritances.4) [Largely illegible] They ask to be released from certain debts.[The rest illegible.]
Nature of endorsement
[With regard to] the first. The Constable is to be ordered to account with them for what they have put into the preparation [of the ships; and what] is found reasonably to be due to them will be paid.. . . when the obligation which they have from the Seneschal and Constable for the 2000 reals has been examined, and let good letters be made . . . King's seal for the same debt, for security for them, and on this payment . . .[The next part of the response is almost entirely illegible: only the words 'Roy' and 'ferront' can be read.]. . . is of the inheritance of the Seignur of La Baret . . . the gift made of it to Arnold Durefort . . . make to Arnold such a remuneration as he will agree to.With regard to the sixth, the Seneschal is to be ordered that justice is to be done to the parties.With regard to the seventh, the Seignur of La Brrd has been asked to remove that impediment . . . suitable manner, and he has said that he will do so.With regard to removing the judge, they are to show a reason why he is not suitable . . .With regard to the ninth, the . . . and the Seneschal are to be ordered to . . . what is to the profit of the King and of the city, and that that demand . . . the city, then let what they request be done.
