Nature of request
Bogo de Knoville makes nine petitions as Sheriff of Shropshire and Staffordshire:1) He requests an allowance for the hundreds of Bradford, Offlow and Totmanslow.2) He requests an allowance for twenty-one vills which are now within franchise through Henry III's gift to Roger de Mortimer.3) He requests an allowance for ten vills within the manor of Holdgate castle, which are now within the franchise of the Temple.4) He requests an allowance for the franchise of Stanway which Henry III gave to Hugh de Bewmieys.5) He requests an allowance for the franchise of Tong, which Henry III gave to Henry de Neueburge.6) He requests an allowance for the franchise of Almington, which Henry III gave to John de Nihcford.7) He requests an allowance for Lydham, which the King enfranchised to Adam de Mungomery.8) He requests an allowance for 100s for the keeping of Shrewsbury castle, and for 100s for the keeping of Bridgnorth castle, and for 60s for the gaoler of Stafford.9) [This article is partly illegible.] He states that he had imprisoned Ednyfed del Stockes in Shrewsbury castle because he took a fee from the Prince of Wales, and then released him on mainprise and on payment of a fine, and that this fine belongs to him for trespasses committed by Ednyfed, but that the Treasurer will not allow it to him without the King's command. He asks the King to command it.

Note
The petition mentions 3 Edward I (20 November 1274-19 November 1275), so would seem to date from around that time. Bogo de Knoville was Sheriff of Shropshire and Staffordshire between 27 October 1274 and 25 October 1278, and held the lordship of Ellesmere between 10 December 1274 and 24 November 1275.
