Description
Petitioners
Reginald de Grey, Lord Grey of Ruthin.
Name(s)
de Grey, Lord Grey of Ruthin, Reginald
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Reginald de Grey of Ruthin states that after the death of John de Hastynges, Earl of Pembroke, his lands were seized into the hands of Richard II, and that after a lengthy suit, he gained possession of them, and held them peacefully until lately, when Lord Furnival had the manor of Wexford seized into the King's hand, and arranged for an assize to be held on this: and by various machinations, including the imprisonment of William White, the petitioner's general attorney, in Dublin castle, the assize on the matter went against the petitioner; so that by conspiracy the manor was granted to Gilbert, Lord Talbot, his brother. He asks that power might be given to the Chancellor of England, by authority of parliament, to send the necessary writs to have the tenors of all the processes on this matter exemplified and enclosed under the King's great seal of Ireland brought before him, and also William White and the reason for his imprisonment, and Gilbert, Lord Talbot and the others whom he accuses of having wronged him, and, calling to himself such justices as seem to him to be necessary, to examine the matter, so that if any error is found he might have his lands back; and that the manor might be seized into the King's hand in the meantime.
Nature of endorsement
The King, with the assent of the lords spiritual and temporal wills that the tenors of all the things contained in this petition, as it desires, and also the enrolment of the pardon and grant formerly made to Lord Talbot under the King's seal of Ireland, are to be brought before the Chancellor of England for the time being with the cause of the imprisonment of Lord Grey's attorney, as mentioned in the petition, and also the body of the same attorney, and when these tenors have been examined and fully understood, together with the power of Lord Furnival for his lieutenancy of Ireland; and the Chancellor, with the advice of the King's justices, is to do full justice in the matter, and this by authority of parliament.
