Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Lucy, son and heir of Anthony de Lucy.
Name(s)
de Lucy, Thomas
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Thomas, son and heir of Anthony de Lucy, states that he only holds a twentieth part of the barony of Egremont by right of inheritance, but he is distrained after the death of his father for relief for half the barony, because his grandfather, Thomas de Lucy, through ignorance wrongly acknowledged that he held half the barony. He requests a writ that the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer might be duly apprised, by inquest or in some other manner, and that Thomas only holds a twentieth part, and that the heirs of John de Muleton hold the rest, so that he might be discharged, notwithstanding his grandfather's acknowledgement.
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the council that if the King can be apprised that the said Thomas only holds a twentieth of the barony of Egremont and that the King has a full tenant for the remainder, it would be just that he should be discharged of what others hold, if it please the King.Answered among the petitions of the twenty-fifth year of Edward III.
Places mentioned
Egremont barony, [Cumberland].
People mentioned
Anthony de Lucy
John de Muleton (Multon)
Thomas de Lucy.
