Nature of request
Letter from the inhabitants of St Neots to the King or Chancellor, stating that they have received a writ requesting a further three men for service in Scotland, beyond the man already requested from them according to the grant made by the community of the realm in the last parliament, but that their town is poor and rural, without the liberties of the larger boroughs which have been asked to contribute, and cannot find even the one man already asked for without great difficulty; and that a further demand has come for four hundred men from Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire, and four of these have been demanded from St Neots. They ask to be excused.

Dated on the Thursday after Sts Peter and Paul (29 June), but the year is not given. Tentatively dated to 1311, with reference to Parliamentary Writs, II:i pp.60 (dated 20 May 1311) and 67 (dated 5 July 1311). The Thursday after Peter and Paul in that year would be 1 July; but other similar demands were made in other years, so the dating must remain very tentative.
