Description
Petitioners
John Legh (Lee) of Quarrendon.
Name(s)
Legh (Lee), John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
John Legh states that he had purchased some land in Aylesbury, by Walton Bridge, of Agnes Thomas, and occupied it peacefully until he was forcibly disseised by Thomas Eton, Bailiff of Aylesbury, and others, on the Tuesday before the feast of St Thomas before last Christmas; and that he then went to the Constable of Aylesbury, and in his presence re-entered his property peacefully. However, the Earl of Ormond who is claiming title to the ground, has indicted him of riot and forcible entry, and is also suing various actions against him. He asks the King to order the Earl to appear before him and the council to answer to this, and that the matter might then be dealt with according to the law.

Note
SC 1/266/13 and SC 1/266/15 attest to a John Lee who is probably the petitioner. Both are addressed to William [Warham], Bishop of London, keeper of the great seal, who held this post from 11 August 1502, but became Archbishop of Canterbury in November 1503. This petition would seem to date from around this time.
