King.
Nature of request
Fragment of a petition concerning the defence of a duchy. The name is torn away, but is probably Aquitaine.
Nature of endorsement
Notes of decision.
uggests that it cannot be later than the mid-fourteenth century. A note on the guard associates it with the minority regime of Edward III, but the link is tenuous.
Note
Since no substantive elements of the petition remain in the extant portion, it is extremely difficult to date this petition. The use of French in the endorsement suggests a date after 1322, and the hand of the petition itself suggests that it cannot be later than the mid-fourteenth century. A note on the guard associates it with the minority regime of Edward III, but the link is tenuous.
