Nature of request
William Hawe, clerk and chaplain of John of Gaunt, requests remedy regarding his presentment to the church of Brading on the Isle of Wight. He states that he received his letters of presentment from the Bishop of Winchester, but when he and the Archdeacon's messenger, Kentebury, arrived with letters to the present incumbents, the Prior and convent of Breamore, they were thrown into prison, and assaulted and mistreated until they escaped.
