Nature of request
The mayor and aldermen of London state that they are the rightful patrons of Bethlehem Hospital outside Bishopsgate in London, but that they have been deprived of that right by Lyncoln, who claims to have letters patent of Richard II granting him the keeping of the hospital. They ask that the king investigate this claim, and annul any letters so granted.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] The king has granted this with the advice of his council.Earl of Somerset.[on dorse] On 13 July in the third year [1402], the council agreed to send this petition to the chancellor, who should call the parties before him and do right to them on the matter contained in this petition according to the laws of England. The Chancellor, Treasurer, Keeper of the Privy Seal, the Bishop of Hereford, J Scarle, J Prophete, J Doreward and J Frome.
