Nature of request
The Master, brothers and poor of St Leonard's Hospital in York request that the king summon Thirnscough to appear on the morrow of the Purification next to answer regarding the non-payment of dues to the hospital. They state they are entitled to a thrave of corn from each carucate they hold in the counties of Yorkshire, Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancashire, but Thirnscough has challenged their rights, and he and others have refused to pay.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] Pledges to prosecute: Thomas Sutton of York, gentleman, Robert Ben of Yorkshire, gentleman.

Note
The petition refers to Thirnscough coming to York on 20 September in the king's sixth year, which is probably 6 Richard II (1382). A commission into this matter was issued on 6 May 1388, and although there is no direct connection between this petition and that commission, it appears likely that it dates from around the same time, and the handwriting would seem to correspond to a date around that time.
