Description
Petitioners
John (João) Vasques Dalmada, knight.
Name(s)
Vasques Dalmada, John (João)
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioner requests letters of safe conduct for Preto, his ship and crew, and the wine which he has bought from a Harfleur burgess. He has been forced to hire French and Breton sailors as he was unable to find Portuguese sailors, and earlier agreements have been broken, to his great loss. He hopes that these letters will allow him to recover some of those losses.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Lisbon, Portugal
Harfleur, [Normandy], France
Calais, [France]

People mentioned
John (João) Preto.
Note
A note on the guard refers to an annuity granted to the petitioner for life by Henry IV in 1400. However, it also notes a seemingly unrelated case from 1414, which appears to involve the merchant concerned here, and this might suggest a later date.
