Note
John Colvyle, grandson and heir of an earlier John Colvyle (executed in the aftermath of the Scrope rebellion in 1405), was aged 20 on 29 December 1414 (CIPM, XX, no.370). The references to Normandy could refer to one of many campaigns, but the reference to it as 'your journey' would suggest that the king was present, and hence the 1415 Agincourt campaign is perhaps most likely. This would seem to date the petition to the latter part of the reign of Henry V. The people against whom the petitioners were complaining were the heirs of Colvill, whose estates passed to the families of his aunts; a deed of division was agreed in 18 Henry VI (1439-40) (Complete Peerage, III, p.373, note f).
