Note
The reference to an attack occurring in February in the fourteenth year of the king's father's reign, coupled with the handwriting, clearly dates this petition to the early years of the reign of Henry V. A commission to Spellowe and others to investigate piracy contrary to treaties with the Duke of Brittany and the people of Flanders was issued on 12 February 1414, and this petition may well be connected with that.
