Description
Petitioners
Abbot and Convent of St Augustine's, Canterbury.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of St Augustine's Canterbury, state that they are in great debt to the king and the Pope as a result of the last vacancy in their house, and request that the king pardon them all outstanding sums owed to him.

[None]
Places mentioned
Canterbury, [Kent].
People mentioned
[William Welde], Abbot of St Augustine's, Canterbury
The Pope

Note
William Welde succeeded Michael Pecham as abbot in 1387, and presumably the petition dates from soon after that date. As noted on the guard, the abbey was later granted custody of its temporalities during future vacancies, but that is not requested here, and while almost certainly connected with these events, is not a direct response to this petition.
