Nature of request
That the friar has been falsely indicted by the malice of the people of North Wales of certain articles annexed to this petition, before the justices of the said county. That they should consider the articles and the malice of them, that the indictments should not be taken before any minister in time to come, because the said bishop is not culpable of any article of them.

Note
The handwriting would appear to date to the latter part of the fourteenth century, and hence almost certainly to the episcopate of John Swaffham (1376-98) (John Gilbert (1372-5) would seem too early for the handwriting). Rees suggests a possible date of 1395-6, with reference to entries on the patent roll relating to the bishop from that time. The first of these seems unlikely to be related to this matter, but the pardon of July 1396 may well be connected.
