[c. 1430-c. 1460]
Description
Petitioners
Alice Serjeaunt (Sergeant).
Name(s)
Serjeaunt (Sergeant), Alice
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Alice Serjeaunt requests that the king direct the chancellor to issue writs of subpoena to Hunt, Loye and Marsh to appear before him to answer for debts owed to her. She had previously secured privy seal letters to Tuddenham on this matter, but he did nothing.
Nature of endorsement
At the discretion of the Chancellor.
Places mentioned
King's Lynn, [Norfolk]
Gayton, [Norfolk].
People mentioned
Thomas Tuddenham, knight
Robert Hunt of King's Lynn, merchant
Philip Loye of Gayton
Thomas Marsh of Gayton, husbandman.
Note
Dated on the guard to 'c. 1441', but only with reference to the appearance of Robert Hunt of Lynn in an unconnected confirmation of that year (CPR 1436-41, p.524). The reference to Tuddenham receiving the original writ might date that event to his term as sheriff in 1432-3, and he is presumably the man executed in 1461. The handwriting would certainly suggest a date during the middle decades of the fifteenth century.
