Date
[1405]
Description
Petitioners
Walter Beauchamp.
Name(s)
Beauchamp, Walter
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
[The right edge of this petition is damaged.]The petitioner states that the king lately granted the office of keeper of the forest of Braydon to Dalyngrygge, but has cancelled these letters in order to grant the office to Beauchamp. He therefore asks that the office be granted to Beauchamp with all appurtenances, as the office is in the king's hands due to the crimes of the Duke of York.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Bradne (Braydon), Wiltshire.
People mentioned
John [Dalyngrygge]
[Edward of York], Duke of York.
Note
The office of keeper of Braydon forest was granted to John Dalyngrygge on 14 March 1405, and was then re-granted to Beauchamp on 16 July (CPR 1405-8, p.73). The petition probably dates from between the two dates, and was presumably from Beauchamp, but the precise identity of the petitioner is unclear, and a significant portion of the petition is now missing.
