Reference
SC 8/184/9168
Date
[1377-c. 1378]
Description
Petitioners
Commons.
Addressees
King and Lords of Parliament.
Nature of request
The Commons request that they no longer be required to account at the Exchequer regarding forfeitures of Scottish money under colour of the recent ordinance, as this is extremely oppressive and of no profit to the king.
Nature of endorsement
Let the ordinance of 47 Edward III be viewed, and let a writ of discharge be issued to the Exchequer accordingly.
Places mentioned
Scotland.
Note
The reference to the king's grandfather clearly dates the petition to the reign of Richard II, while the appearance of other similar petitions in the rolls of parliaments held in the final years of Edward III's reign and the early part of Richard II's would suggest that this petition also dates to that period.
