Date

Description
Petitioners
John de Holand, knight; John Fitz Nicholas; Thomas Talbot.
Name(s)
de Holand; Fitz Nicholas; Talbot, John; John; Thomas
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petitioners request letters appointing them to investigate and collect all debts owed by the farmers of the earldom of Richmond and others to the late Duchess of Brittany, the king's sister. Talbot also requests a warrant authorising the payment of £120 granted to him by the Duke of Brittany from his English lands (exchanged for the castle of Brest). The farmer of these lands, the Earl of Northumberland, refuses to pay without such warrant.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Brest, [Brittany, France].
People mentioned
Thomas Morwell, knight
William Wyndesore (Windsor), clerk
[Joan de Montfort], Duchess of Brittany, sister of the king
[John IV], Duke of Brittany
[Henry de Percy], Earl of Northumberland.
Note
The chancery warrant with which this petition was formerly enclosed was dated at Windsor on 12 May. A note on the guard to that document dates this to 8 Richard II (1385), but only on the strength of CPR 1381-5, p.540, and this petition may be later. However, the address to Michael de la Pole as Chancellor, and the dating at Windsor, would date the warrant, and hence the petition, to either 1385 or 1386.
