Nature of request
John, chaplain of St leonards, Hastings, requests remedy on three matters.1) He states that the tithes of the manor of Wildmarsh, which ought to pertain to his chapelry, but that Batesford, the holder of the manor, has detained payment for five years, and has helped the parson of Pevensey take them for his church.2) He states that Marc and others have broken his close and stolen his goods, and now lay in wait for his so that he dare not sue for remedy.3) The Prior of Harmondsworth has imprisoned him for payment of a pension from his church to which he is not entitled, and which his predecessors have never paid.
