Note
By the original grant, made on 1 July 1403, Edmund was to receive the bulk of the Kent inheritance on his majority, stated to be 'around the feast of epiphany next' (i.e. 6 January 1404). The petition then states that he reached his majority at 'the feast of epiphany last', thus dating the petition to the ensuing year, and hence almost certainly to 1404. Edmund died in 1408. The lands in question were former Duchy of Lancaster estates, granted away by Edward II after the fall of Thomas of Lancaster in 1322, and which Henry IV was intent on reuniting to the ret of the Duchy (Somerville, Duchy of Lancaster, I, p.173).
