The Dean and Chapter of the New College (Newark College) of Leicester, state that Excestre and his fellows lay in wait outside their gates for three days, intending to attack them or their servants if they dare leave their house. They request that the king order the chancellor to summon these people before the king and take recognisances from them that they keep the peace towards the college and its people.

Note
The signet letter in which this petition was formerly enclosed was dated at Hertford Castle on 4 June (no year given), and addressed to the archbishop of Canterbury, the chancellor. As noted on the guard, this would indicate a date of either 1407-9 or 1412, when Thomas Arundel was chancellor, but the lack of extant details of Henry IV's itinerary from this period prevents further precision. The name of the bailiff has been inserted, and is difficult to decipher, as it is written over the abbreviation mark on 'Tailor' below.
