Reference
SC 8/181/9025
Date
[c. 1318]
Description
Petitioners
Monks of Bardney.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The monks of Bardney Abbey request financial assistance for their house, as they have incurred great expense in suing the articles recently promulgated against Waynflete at Northampton, and many of their monks have left.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Bardney, [Lincolnshire]
Northampton, [Northamptonshire]
Lincoln, [Lincolnshire].
People mentioned
Robert de Waynflete (Wainfleet), alleged Abbot of Bardney.
Note
An earlier petition on this matter was evidently presented to the Hilary parliament of 1315, while the reference to articles promulgated at Northampton may well refer to the council meeting held there in July 1318, the same year in which Bardney received a new abbot, Richard of Gainsborough. As such, the petition probably dates to that year or shortly thereafter.
