Nature of request
The petitioners request letters ordering the restoration of their goods, seized by the searcher of Dartmouth. They state that they paid the customs in Plymouth for their goods, receiving a cocket, but were then forced by bad weather to seek shelter in Dartmouth. The searcher there arrested their ship, since their goods included Cornish cloth which was not on their cocket, even though no custom was ever due on that cloth.

Note
Dated tentatively to the first half of the fifteenth century, based on the handwriting and the English text. A Nicholas Fouaschin was bailiff of Guernsey, 1481-3. The searcher mentioned may be John Wych, searcher in Plymouth and Fowey between 9 November 1433 and 16 November 1440 (E 122/184/6; CFR 1430-7 pp.172 and 241; CFR 1437-45 p.174).
