Note
Dated on the guard to 1393, seemingly with reference to a recognizance of £200 between William and Roger Credy and the Archbishop of York enrolled on 30 April 1393. However, the signet writ with which the petition was formerly enclosed was dated at Windsor on 19 January (no year given), and according to N. Saul, Richard II (New Haven, 1997), Appendix, p.472, Richard was at Bishop's Sutton in Hampshire on 19 January 1393. Clearly the writ must date to a year when Thomas Arundel was both Archbishop of York and Chancellor on 19 January (1389 or 1395), and although the itineraries are incomplete, Richard's movements would seem to discount 1395 (when he was in Ireland) and 1394 (Sheen) as well as 1393. Given these events, and assuming that the 1393 recognizance was related to this matter, 1392 would appear most likely.
