According to R. Somerville, 'History of the Duchy of Lancaster', vol. I, p.488, Ambrose was appointed as clerk of common pleas on 9 September 1400, and confirmed in office on 24 May 1413 and 17 February 1423. The reference to the king's father thus clearly dates this petition to shortly after Henry V's accession, to between Henry IV's death on 20 March 1413, and his confirmation in office on 24 May.
